so i been watching a lot of WCW material lately, particularly the PPVs, particularly from '96-'97. and i have 2 strong prevailing thoughts. #1, their product was absolutely better than WWF. no doubt about it. the talent was just head and shoulders better. #2, there couldnt have been a better in-ring worker in the biz than Chris Benoit. absolute savage, technical, perfectionist. every match/show i come away thinking yea Benoit had the best match. 1997 War Games, NWO vs Four Horseman, Chris Benoits performance is the only thing you'll remember.

It's true. They had the better talent overall for quite some time actually. WWF/E merely had better ideas and better presentation. WWE always had or produced the top 2 or 3. But after that it was largely WCW guys. It's crazy that Benoit was that good and yet his pay probably never reflected it. Who knows where he would have went if he never went loco.

and you just gave me prevailing thought #3. the best workers and best matches were all from the midcarders. Benoit, Jericho, Guerrero, Mysterio, Harlem Heat, DDP, Malenko, Faces of Fear etc. its just asinine to see that once the Senior Citizens group led by Hogan ran its course, WCW couldnt stay afloat with the next generation of supremely talented wrestlers they had, which didnt even include Goldberg at the time. im literally looking at midcarders tearing the house down in WCW, knowing they'd eventually tear the house down as main eventers in WWF. the creative team for WCW was garbage.

i thought that looked vaguely familiar. the Bubba Bomb.
yea thats a perfect example of guys needing to know wtf they're doing in order not to potentially cripple someone. Rude had no clue what he was gonna do, Warrior had no clue what was coming. they got lucky.

Macho Man vs Ric Flair at WM 8 was an absolute classic. RIP to an ATG, Randy Savage.
Savage was such an under rated worker. I think is was ESPN, a few years ago, put out a long form article, an oral history of the match between him and Ricky The Dragon, probably top 3 ATG matches ever.

They say savage used to plot and plan the hell out of his matches, and it shows because all of his matches made the grade.

yeah. it had to be love/hate working with Hogan. love that he was at the top, headlining, etc. Hate that Hogan can't wrestle and produce the kind of match that he can.

during the Monday Night wars documentary series, they mentioned how Hogan/Flair at WM8 was the original plan, with Flair having just defected from WCW. and for some unexplained reason WWF switched gears and did Savage/Flair instead. best decision they ever made. Hogan instead wrestled Sid in a non title main event and the only things that match is known for is Papa Shango being like 2 minutes late for his interference spot, and the return of Ultimate Warrior.

you're being nice lol. he was shit. the crowd and his opponents carried all of his matches pretty much. dude had no move set whatsoever. punch, kick, remedial body slam, the occasional atomic drop, which was always a terrible non believable move. fucking basic leg drop as his "special." really?? thats a throw away move for everyone else. let me leg drop this motherfucker just to buy me another 20 seconds while i think of the next spot to go to. but Hogan was winning titles with that shit, while his opponent put in all the real work. fuck Terry Bolea.
