Kenny was the better player by far. clearly. but when im talking about being in awe, im talking about Macs 2 year run with STL where he hit 70 HRs, setting the record, then followed that up with 65 the next year. never seen such a thing.

one thing I'll never forget, once Mac had 69 HRs, whatever game you were watching, when Mac came up the telecast would automatically go to Macs at bat. like live cut ins of every one of his at bats. and it seemed like every HR he hit that year was a 450 ft moon shot. so of course #70 ended up being a low line drive that barely cleared 350 ft. it was both exhilarating and disappointing.

That year of mac going crazy, and then followed up by Barry, have no equal to me....except for maybe MJ at his best, but even then, MJ was so good for so long that it never felt like a high...more than it just felt like business as usual. When Mac or Barry swung the bat, you legit thought the ball was leaving the park.

Because Wilson was a game manager at this same point in his career, whereas Mahomes looks like he's trending towards being the GOAT.

Due to his OWN limitations or problems? Or due to his coaching staff holding him back? His numbers were still elite even back then.

Mariano Rivera over literally everyone else. I watched dude saw off like three bats in a row during one of those World Series.

I assume we are talking about things we witnessed. You can add Lionel Messi to the list, too. Gotta put Usain Bolt in there, too. I never thought I'd see the kind of times he ran but he did it.

And I kind of can't wrap my head around a guy as big as Giannis Antetokounmpo doing the things he does.

If we are talking about things we didn't see then Joe DiMaggio's homerun to strikeout ratio.

Mo is a good choice but idk, maybe because of how effortless he made it look, maybe i took him for granted and never really thought of him as awe inspiring. he didnt throw 100 mph. he didnt have some slick moving off speed stuff. he never really fooled hitters. he just went out and threw about 92-94 mph, basically the same 2 pitches, and just dominated consistently in the same manner for an extremely long time. he was a fucking machine.

Hell yea he was a machine. One of the few yankee players that, as a Boston fan, I could look at and genuinely like and respect.

Yea, that's why I included him and what he did was superhuman and he did it so many years in a row.

These were not necessary the all greatest, just people who left me in awe.

I even included Floyd in the list because I was in awe of his subltle Jedi shit. He never failed.
Bo had to be the greatest physical man to have ever lived on this Earth. Freakish.
Deion just came through time and time again..he shut down an entire side of a field and played both sides of the ball. He played against some of the best and shut them down.
Tyson just had the aura. I was sad to see him fail apart but the writing was on the wall after D'Amato passed away and KIng took him.
Barry Sanders just moved like no other. Stil nobody like him.
Why Ali I'd have to write a full page. I watched him with HOward calling the fights. IT one of my first real sports memorties where my heart was pounding from watching.

Tyson was great but i never found him to be awe inspiring. it was never a surprise to me that someone would be capable of doing what he did, as entertaining and great as it was. he was a tough guy fucking dudes up. and then he did get KOd when i was still very young. Floyd on the other hand, was fighting the best guys, hardly getting touched and hardly losing any rds. how the fuck are you fighting but guys cant hit you?? that right there was truly amazing.

I remember the Tyson when he was fucking dudes up. He made boxing cards spectacles. I don't put him on the list of goats, but in his prime, I was in awe of him.

Yeah...I think V put is best when he termed it "subtle jedi shit". I mean it was ridiculous. You felt he was just toying with people, mentally maneuvering them into doing exactly what he wanted them to do.
