What a great season. Watching the Pens vs Wings game right now on NBCSN. It's 2-2.
I haven't seen much of this Pallat kid (or whatever lol) from TB but that fanbase is making a ton of noise that he deserves to be ROtY over Mackinnon. They say he's basically as dangerous offensively and a rookie forward revelation defensively.
Anyone seen him at all?
Any playoff predictions? Comments in general regarding anything?

23 years in a row. Things could get interesting if Hank makes it back.

Sid will win the Hart. He has won the point race by 17 points.
The crazy thing is, anyone who is a serious Penguin fan will tell you, he hasn't been the same since breaking his jaw last year. He's still the best player in the league, but despite a 17 point margin (which is astronomical in today's game), he was still clearly not in his peak form this year.
That year he got concussed for the first time set hockey back for years. You were looking at a dude about to transcend the sport. He was about to transcend the entire sport of hockey with unreal numbers. Then some he got hit a couple times and his neck got fucked up and professional doctors thought it was his head for over a year.
He came back. Got hurt. Then came back and it took just a little while but he regained true form shortly thereafter. He was about to transcend the sport again then he had his jaw crushed by a deflected puck from his own teammate. He hasn't been the same since.
Still 17 points better than anyone in the league today.
Still a class act. Still not a shit talker, still a total team player, and still always willing to talk to the media and sign for the fans.

That last post made me a little nauseous.
I think the first round of the East is going chalk.
Rangers will destroy the Flyers. Rangers-Penguins in the next round is going to be really fun. Pittsburgh is better, but Rangers play them tough. I think it's going 7, where anything can happen.
Boston-Habs next round will be the best series of the playoffs. Winner of that is going to the Finals.
West will have upsets. LA will beat SJ, and go far, because that's what they do. Chicago is beating the Blues. I don't know what happens after that. Don't watch enough West Coast Hockey.

The best hockey in the world is being played in the western conference. I really wish there wasn't an east coast bias in NHL coverage, but there definitely is. I didn't watch many western conference games this year, but I absolutely loved watching the Pens play the top western teams this year. There is such a contrast in a Pens vs Blues game instead of say, a Pens vs Lightning game.
Pens got the best draw in Columbus. I hope they will win, and I think with Geno coming back they will.
I think Philly is better than the Rangers, so I think they'll win that series. Hopefully I am wrong.
Boston will beat Detroit. If Detroit got Zetterberg back I think this would be a crazy good series, but I don't see them being able to overcome Boston without their most productive offensive player.
I think TB will upset Montreal.
I will elaborate more later. Or I won't. I think Boston goes to the finals again too.

First round of playoffs, I get my usual local telecast, which is great, but after that, it's all national coverage, which makes sense, but I fucking hate. You ride with your local announce crew for 70-something games a year (losing a game here and there to the NBC's), and in my case, with Sam Rosen doing play-by-play, literally, my entire life (Sam celebrated his 30th anniversary at MSG this year). Even though he doesn't know it, he's like another uncle to me, and I miss hearing that son of a bitch when I need him most, in the most important games of the year. Meanwhile, I gotta hear the white Gus Johnson, fucking Doc Emerick, screaming ricochet thirty times a period instead. It's 2014. There should be multiple audio options per telecast. The home team, at least, should have the option of getting a home broadcast crew on an alternating audio channel. I'll look at (Regis) Pierre Mcguire move his lips with no audio coming out. I'll be fine.
I think I got spoiled, because this is what a Mickey Mouse league the NHL is, last time the Rangers were in the Stanley Cup Finals in 1994, ESPN, which was broadcasting it nationally, was blacked out in New York, for the local coverage, and we got to hear our local guys do it instead. It was great for me, but just think, ESPN didn't have the viewership of the biggest city in America, who happened to have their team winning a cup for the first time in 54 years. Kind of a missed opportunity.

Can't believe this is going to a 5th there were so many A plus chances. Chicago basically was like - Steen, take your time, fuck with our goalie, and pick your best shot sweetheart.
BAM! He hits the post!
Miller sured up a little at the end as Chicago tired out, but the announcers said that the one puck got behind him and got saved by one of his Dmen.

Datsyuk is still the most electrifying motherfuker on ice. Give me your best player's highlight reel and I'll yawn watching it after watching Pavel's.

Chill, look, I know who I'm rooting for this year aside from the Penguins.

I'm so torn watching Anaheim and Dallas. They are my two favorite teams in the West. Anaheim is just bad as hell with Getzlaf and Perry but I really love Seguin and Benn's swagger.

Ryan Miller, the most overrated goalie of his generation, out in the first round. I felt like the only guy that didn't understand the unanimous praise for that Stl/Buf trade. Rather have Halak/Stewart.

Cole, i know you basically feared the Rangers and were begging the NHL gods not to face them. so how does that work if they win Game 7?? do you feel dumb or guilty or something along those lines??

I'll feel like I did before the playoffs: Like I know nothing about hockey. That said...I'd give them about a 15% shot at actually winning tonight. Just can't see it. But who knows?

Game 2 tonight. Prime, you carrying boards tonight, pretending your ice crew, and getting in for free, like the old days?

Very entertaining first period. It finally feels like playoff hockey. I missed the first game. My DVR didn't record it and I was so bummed.
