first game is interesting.

i dont really know who brazil starts. there big advantage is their defense. silva, luiz, alves (not sure who their 4th starter is, i would start dante, but i am thinking they might start maicon).

btw was thinking about this. why not do silva, luiz, dante, alvez back 4 then mid field of oscar, ramirez and marcelo then play fred neymar and hulk. that is just a big bruising team with neymar and oscar being the only normal sized soccer players.

i think they are going to start another midfield instead of hulk though.

anyway croatia is no joke. mandzuric (starting striker for bayern munich) modric (madrid bought him for 40 million euros). and the rest of their team is solid to good starters on good European teams.

Fuck yeah Jo!!!!

A lot of hopes are riding on neymar but I think it'll be someone else that steps up for Brazil. And you're right about Croatia. Mexico has the worst tram I've ever seen in decades of watching the cup so they're by no means a lock. I'll be rooting hard for them though.

It ain't too late get on the USA bandwagon band! Hop aboard.

That said, I'm actually looking forward to this. I have some British friends who are crazy about soccer, so I'm sure I'll end up in a pub for a few of these games and drink plenty of beer. I have zero rooting interest outside of the USA, who are doomed, so that should take some fun out of it.

Root for the under dogs, band. That's where it gets fun. Most teams outside of Europe, Brazil and Argentina.

no team from africa, central or north america has won!

what team is luis suarez in uruguay is it, every time i see that team they are always winning!

i wish the usa team was more daring. i think that is the reason why only a few nations get to win this, they play a very daring game!

i don't think this is a sissy sport, it like running a marathon, but people are kicking pushing and tackling you at the same time!

i think espn is going to have it, and they are going to put it on demand, i hope they do the world cup justice!

What a bullshit penalty kick. Brazil doesn't need that kind of favoritism to win.

yeah that was a really bad call! it seemed like all the calls were going for brazil! i didn't understand what happened that they called off the goal by croatia, the guy barely touch the goalkeeper! and i don't know too much about soccer, but wasn't there a foul before the second goal, the guy from croatia seemed to be taken down, then newmar got his goal!

Right on Vic.

More bad officiating today. Mexico got robbed of two goals but they also squandered some opportunities. They looked better than expected, though. Cameroon would be lucky to go home with a tie against Croatia.

Holland vs Spain next. Fuck yeah. Neither team better sleep on Chile.

I still think Spain is good enough to make it to the finals or at least the semis. Fuckers have been playing together for 20 years. They accommodate each others flaws by playing so well together.

spoiler alert!

good thing verizon has soccer on demand! i wanna see how spain lost!

i can't believe the saves some of these goalkeepers do, the mexican goalie was awesome! the mexican fans seem to be the most animated with the rey mysterio "el santo" masks! very cool even in the rain!

one thing i don't understand is why some refs allow a lot of pushing and knock downs and others call a yellow for anything! i guess it's like steve smoger and the rest of the refs!?

Yeah the refs suck but its the same in all sports. There's always some level of corruption or incompetence. ITs only easier to spot in footbol.

What an ass whooping by Holland. I thought they'd win but not like that. Casillas played lousy. Ive never seen him have a game like that. Spain lost the last world cup opener against Chile but bounced back nicely. Let's see how they do..

i just saw the replay of the spain netherlands game. it could have been worse! the netherlands seems like they are for real! spain has a rough division! it seemed like they were happy just to get the ball out of bounds and stopped attacking!

i can't believe soccer doesn't use video replays! i mean just about every sport uses it! even boxing used it once on espn when teddy told the ref a headbutt was the reason for a cut once!

soccer should get it or get more refs for every game!

i am officially going to put going to a world cup game on my bucket list!

In the middle of my every four year tradition of attempting to enjoy soccer. I like niche things. I'm a hockey fan, for crying out loud. I watch tennis. Soccer should be my thing. It's just such a shitty game, I can't help it. A terrible, terrible game.
