fuck that this needs its own thread. this finna be epic. i went back last night and rewatched both previous fights, trying to picture what may happen in fight 3. the possibilities are endless. we will discuss as the week progresses and I'll give an alcohol fueled sermon and official prediction on Friday night. but man, this one gonna be memorable.

i will say rewatching the last fight, and i didnt quite notice the extent of it while watching live in the heat of the moment, and especially given the final result. Dustin is a great boxer (mma standards in effect). he was at a clear disadvantage in that area vs Conor. it was actually pretty eye opening.

Perhaps. But the problem is that Conor style is not only been solved, but Conor himself cannot deploy it to the same level that he could in his prime. That's ok to get by against Cowboy level of opposition. Not an elite caliber fighter like Porier.

You get old, drugged and liquored up, your body doesnt have the same delivery system anymore. So you might have the same power, but you dont possess the punch or timing to land what you need to in order to spark the guy you're facing.

but thats the thing, his striking was indeed on that level, early on. but Dustin took away Conors elite striking by taking away his leg. So now its just a matter of Conor adjusting to that by better defending those leg kicks that ruined him. but will he do that by simply checking those kicks?? or perhaps is the best defense a great offense?? Dustin is just as heavy on that front leg. :eusa_think:

It was too much for Conor then, it'll be too much for him now. Aint no adjustments to make. Conor simply lacks the physical gift at this end stage of his career to execute it. To me, it's more about the fact that Conor can't bring our his best anymore. That's been the pattern for the entirety of this stage of his career. he didnt need his best against a shot Cowboy, who was never elite anyway. The money, the drugs, the booze, the women, all of that, has create mental blocks in his own mind that prevent him from doing the necessary work to get himself to a point where he can beat an elite fighter. Porier gonna beat his ass inside 2 rounds.

now, speaking of being heavy on the front leg, thats something Conor hasnt really been known for until his last 3 fights. people speculate he's pretty much just relied on his boxing and power ever since he fought Floyd. idk if its a strategic match up thing or if he just hasnt really broken those boxing habits or whatever. but as Wonderboy Thompson eluded to, im curious to see if Conor goes back to that karate stance, bouncing in and out side to side, more well rounded striking that includes alot of kicks type of game plan that he was known for. and if he does, will it be business as usual, or will it be unnatural for him now.

well yea thats definitely an intangible thats really hard to gauge. or not. im not sure. he didnt need to be at his best to beat Cowboy, but 40 seconds is 40 seconds. it took prime Ferguson and prime Gaethje alot longer to dispatch of the same Cowboy. no shame in losing to Khabib, or Dustin for that matter. but none of this adjustments talk means anything if he's simply shot. but i cant say with 100% certainty that he is. idk.

Nothing to do with nature due to his foray into boxing. It's unnatural for him now because he's old and worn. :hearty-laugh:

Karate stances, stances that rely on steady posturing or steady movement, are young man stances. Floyd is one of the hardest working most gifted fighters of all time. But you saw his general stance and posture change from Pretty Boy into late stage money may. It's father time. Father time has changed mcgregors stance, and the things he has chosen to do with the time that father time granted him.

Yes, if he can deploy his Karate stance and be old Conor, it would be his best chance at winning. But aint no muthafucka time machine around here to go back in time and fetch that Conor to fight for him.

he's only 32, but probably alot older due to his lifestyle outside the ring. he did make the neccessary adjustments vs Nate in their rematch when people were saying "na its a bad match up Conor can't do anything different." you can always do something different in MMA which is why rematches are so much more unpredictable in MMA. obviously we saw that with Dustin in the Conor rematch.

Speaking of Dustin, things are more simple and crystal clear for him. keep doing exactly what you did last time and adjust on the fly as needed. take Conors striking away with calf kicks. if Conor adjusts, then go to the wrestling/ground game. either calf kicks or wrestling, he has to take away Conors striking by draining him first, then putting him away with his own striking. exactly what he did last time. he knows he can't win a pure boxing match. its not some tough guy shit, its smart. Dustin has more ways to win. all he has to do is ve smart and utilize his whole bag.

This entire card is really strong. To have a co-main of Wonderboy vs Burns and on the free undercard you even have Flippy Perreira vs Niko Price...it is just unheard of to have that kind of depth on a Conor card. I might actually buy it.

its not quite unprecedented. The Mendes and Nate 1 PPVs had some gems. but yea this card got a few bangers. i think Condit/Griffin and Pereira/Price are better fights than the first 3 PPV fights. :kopfpatsch:

Wonderboy-Burns is fire though. I wish that was 5 rounds.

I can't see Conor doing anything different to get a different result. But I hope for it, because shits better when you have a lighting rod cross over star like that.

with all due respect, you're saying this as a casual. in MMA you almost expect a guy to look completely different and do different things in a rematch. shit, Korean Zombie, and you can guess how he got that name, was basically in a must win his last fight, and recently revealed he was getting hate messages because he didnt live up to that Zombie moniker his last fight, instead becoming a patient wrestling based all around fighter seemingly overnight.

Conor has been far more active in the trash talk/ bantering this time around, but idk, it just isnt vintage Conor. seems like he's just searching for "it."

Conor used to be hungry and motivated. his heart is in the the right place. but you cant manufacture it. this isnt do or die for him. it is for Porier.

And you can see it, you can feel it. In his actions, his words, all of that. We've seen enough of Conor to be able to tell when he's motivated, or motivated enough. He has tells.

Is the Mayweather thing the best/wrost thing that happened to him?

Made him tons of $$$, cross over appeal, etc. But, did it take the dog out of him?

No.

I mean yes, but no in the sense that, Conor was destined to get that big money either way. if it wasn't mayweather, it would have been another fight or something else. Maybe not as quick, but he was gonna hit a ceiling where he stopped caring. I suspect the true money ceiling is lower than what he got from may and the liquor. But he would have hit that number and then tappered off either way.

He's content with what he is made, but he's more addicted to the rush of being among the fans and talkin shit and all the things around the fight, more than the actual fight.

What's crazy he, he might not even realize it, and maybe convincing himself that he's hungry and doing all that he can to get his best result.
