Watches are just obsolete.
Silly IMO but I get the tradition or if its a gift.
Someone gets me a watch and I just wish they'd spent the money on something useful.
Same kind of accessory like carrying around a shitty compass but fancier versions available.

I won a Rolex in a sales contest a few years back, but took the cash. Probably would not look too good for a sales guy dickering on price to be wearing a Rolex.
I have a really nice Seiko dive watch, but I normally wear my $30 Casio sports watch 99% of the time.
I'll be happy as hell when I retire in a few years, I'm not going to have a watch or give 2 shits about the time.

I am a watch guy. THey compliment whatever you got on. Not necessarily diamond out or fancy, just a solid, fashionable watch. I don't need one on all the time either, im not a big jewelry guy. I have one chain, golden gloves. And a few watches for every occasion.

I have a nice Omega watch from the 1960's that my grandfather gave me. I got it tuned up and working again eight years ago, and it's still in good shape. I probably only wear it twenty times a year. Maximum. I think you should have a watch to go with a suit, for the odd wedding and funeral, and miscellaneous pretending to be on Mad Men shit. Other than that, its time has passed, which was a completely accidental pun, but fuck it, I'm keeping it.
It is interesting, though, that with phones becoming our new watches, that people reaching into their pockets, to get the time is a lot like the even older time of pocket watch days. Same ritual. Different instrument.

Watched are a thing of the past. No one really wears it to tell time. Cell phones have killed it like Grubs mentioned. Only use for it now is to show off like athletes or rappers do or to out on big events. I myself have a Rolex my wife bought me some years ago that I rarely ever wear.
