Anyone seen the trailers or been following this release at all?
I tell you what it's really hard to not get excited. I"m trying to temper my expectations, but from everything I have read, the director really gets it. Godzilla is a force of nature. He's not evil, he's no a good guy, he's a living and breathing hurricane.
The trailer's are really good too. So often these days trailer's suck complete dog cock. These ones leave plenty to the imagination, but show just enough of the big guy to make you want much, more more.
I grew up loving Godzilla movies so it's a big time nostalgia thing for me. The last Godzilla flick that came out in the US was pretty good in my opinion (no not that Zilla bullshit from the 90's). I think it was called Godzilla 2000. This flick looks likes it is here to stand on its own though.
In contrast, Michael Bay's TMNT looks like it's going to be a bastardization that will crush my spirits after 30 minutes of viewing. I'd say Vegas odds have it 5:1 that after I leave the theatre I will drink half a fifth of vodka, order pizza, and cry while I watch the original TMNT on amazon stream.

yea its pretty sad that new TMNT looks wack as fuck. Megan Fox has never done a good movie in her life so naturally she gets the April O'Neil role. and I also heard about that aliens angle, lol. total fuck up from top to bottom. the Nickelodeon series aint that bad though.

When I saw the trailer, which looked pretty sweet, I looked to see who the director was, and it was some dude I never heard of. So I checked out his first movie, called Monsters. It's a low budget apocalypse movie, so not a lot of happens, which is kind of the point too, but it was well directed, and had great low budget special effects. The monsters kind of looked like Cloverfield, unfortunately, but it was more of a character study of the two main characters, if anything. Director seems to know what he's doing, so Godzilla should be better than the 90's one, at least. Especially now that he has a budget.

We had some interesting commentary about Godzilla on the old board.

I was a huge Godzilla fan growing up as a kid (fuck King Kong) and I hope this one is a great movie. The last one I saw was garbage.
Anyway, I really miss the old Chinese or Japanese flicks where Godzilla was fucking up Rodan, Mothra, Space Godzilla, MechaGodzilla, King Ghidorah, Destoroyah and King Kong. Now that was Godzilla at his best.
I hated that baby Godzilla flick though. You had to step on his fucking tail for him to throw out flames from his mouth. What a bitch.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up. My son loves the godzilla franchise so I've watched almost all them. I'm not kidding there has to be at least 30 flicks. The last one that came out "godzilla final wars" wasn't bad at all. Just a noisy, nonsensical independence day/ matrix rip off with big ass monsters.

I haven't read any reviews, but the early number on imdb is getting my hopes up way too high.

For some reason it's hard for me to admit but yeah, it wasn't really all that good. A solid 6/10. I saw it opening Friday night but didn't post about it so I guess that kind of says it all.
I actually thought he looked and sounded fantastic though. And the end of his fight with the giant monster was fantastic.
