Boxing is my preferred spectator sport, but I feel its flaw in the art we call the sweet science.
The flaw rest when the best like Floyd and Hop do their thing to exploit this flaw.
That flaw being relying on good nature and skirting the edge of the rules.
Don't get me wrong here. Opponents fully acquiesce over the rounds in time.
IT is a testament to the willpower and knowledge of the sport and distance.
But here is the thing I think Prime is getting at....
Brawlers completely ignore the sweet part and fight like those bums you talk about.
Brawlers don't bend or acquiesce as much and would knee Floyd or Nard in the face if they continued to put their head near their crotch enough times.
I feel the flames starting to fan. :wagging-finger-no-no-smiley-emoticon:
Boxing is suppose to resemble a battle, a fight, and test of two mens mental and physical fortitude.
It doesn't in all cases and those who are the best pretend like they are bad bad bad men.
Truth is...they aren't because the "sweet" part of boxing in too much in their blood.
Like the men who are sparring partners for a living and get too used to pads...they forget under what protections exist...its almost like a gentleman's agreement not to get too rough. :D
Its like a fencer thinking they are a real sword master.
Same as a boxer thinking they are a real fighter.
Some spills over into the other but the brutal nature of both is nothing like the sim they play.

My point is whatever. I comparatively thing like this with everything. MMA is more purely combat oriented like a life and death fight would be too. However, they can't kill the fucker by kneeing them in teh back of the head despite nearly every MMAr takign advantage of this exploit. They can't kill each other just yet...but wait a decade or 2.

Now I love the sport. Lets get that straight. Don't tell me to go watch MMA if I don't like it. Boxing is a helluva lot different than it was 40-50 years ago and it will continue to change.

The sweet science is good for the sport. I'd hate to see boxing get dumbed down.

And just because you got 2 guys who are skilled in the ring, doesn't mean you won't get a lot of action either.

Its only really when a brawler and purist get in there and they can't come to an "agreement" how it will go down. Then you got the ref who gets involved and becomes as much about the bout as the boxers.

Ill tell you where it really sticks wrong with me...its the clinching. I dislike it and it just shouldn't be allowed IMO. Either someone does it because they are tired, don't want to get hit, in trouble, or just frustrate their opponent. No matter in my eyes....cut the shit out. Same result would be to wrap a leg around a dude. ITs a subjective matter...I know that. Holding is sometimes an "agreement" between the 2 in the ring. I just can't defend holding as a viable defense in any regard to a combat sport.

:knee-to-head-knockout: NO holding unless you can wreck the guy doing so...maybe my personal favorite move. :kick-in-the-balls:

It's a fine line. Dirrell vs. Froch, Dirrell wasn't boxing. Dirrell vs. Abraham, Dirrell was boxing.

i prefer boxers but I like Brawlers who go to the body block shots and cut off the ring.. boxing today is filled with dumb fighters who want the gatti stye fights but end up following guys around the ring with no jab getting outboxed..

Some guys just brawl smart. They can box and bang. Cotto, Canelo, Monitor come to mind when I say that. Not that they are unhittable though. I'm just saying they not just come forward brawlers.

When guys run a lot and throw combos from way the fuck outside, it makes me want to smash my tv.
